Rockwell Automation White Paper Educates Manufacturers on the Benefits of Integrating Control and Information Systems

New white paper explores how an integrated control and information system can reduce costs, improve regulatory compliance and improve time-to-market

MILWAUKEE, July 13, 2006 - A new white paper from Rockwell Automation explores how an integrated control and information infrastructure-like the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture-can help manufacturers reduce production costs, improve regulatory compliance and respond more quickly to changing market demands.

The paper, "Integrating Control and Information Systems," outlines the business trends that are driving the need to create an integrated environment where data-when put into the appropriate hands-can be turned into useful information to improve manufacturing and business processes.

"Reliable data in an easy-to-access format is critical to defining potential problems, analyzing them and determining if they've been fixed," said Kevin Roach, vice president of Rockwell Software, Rockwell Automation. "This data can be derived from various sources, including manufacturing processes, equipment and instrumentation, to document manufacturing performance and process changes, and subsequent results."

Industry's increased focus on the intrinsic value of information is central to the strategic initiative underway by Rockwell Automation that brings together the company's software product offerings into a single integrated suite-FactoryTalk. The modular standards-based FactoryTalk software applications feature tight integration with the Rockwell Automation Logix Control Platform, as well as extensive connectivity to third-party and legacy systems.

"With the combination of our Logix Control Platform and FactoryTalk integrated production and performance software, we are helping manufacturers bridge the gap between the plant floor and business-level systems and deliver relevant real-time information to the people and systems that need it," Roach said. "Our strategy builds on this foundation by creating one integrated suite that embraces both services and applications to provide manufacturers with insight that can be used to reduce costs and time-to-market, as well as increase innovation and assist in new product development."
