Raytheon's FIRSTplus Simulator Adds Realism to Dowling School of Aviation Curriculum

MARLBORO, Mass., and RICHMOND, B.C., April 20, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Canada Limited will supply a turnkey FIRSTplus simulator, Raytheon Company's advanced air traffic control (ATC) training simulator, to the Dowling College National Aviation Technology center in Brookhaven, N.Y. FIRSTplus is an ATC simulator used worldwide by air navigation agencies and other ATC training institutions.

The Dowling College FIRSTplus simulator will consist of a 3-D ATC tower, radar training stations, pseudo pilots and voice recognition. Raytheon COMMplus, a complementary product, provides voice communications simulator and voice recording. Dowling will also be able to create and modify its own 3-D image scenery.

Dowling College is one of only 14 U.S. colleges or universities participating in the Federal Aviation Administration's Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative. FIRSTplus will allow Dowling College students to experience simulated tower operations, approach and enroute operations, procedural operations and ATC voice communications.

"Dowling continues to be a leader in aviation education. We are excited to incorporate such an advanced ATC simulator into our curriculum," said Martin Holley, dean of the School of Aviation, Dowling College. "FIRSTplus provides the training experience that will equip our students for success."

The FIRSTplus simulator will be located with the fleet of aircraft and flight simulators at Dowling's School of Aviation Brookhaven Campus.
