Raymond Recognized for Leadership in Technical Publications

GREENE, N.Y. - The Raymond Corporation's Technical Publications group received the Rare Bird award from the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM) for its new XML process development initiative. Raymond is the first materials handling equipment provider to convert its technical publications, including parts and maintenance manuals, into XML/DITA format so they can be easily repurposed and viewed on a PDA or computer. XML, or Extensible Markup Language, is a language that allows technical information to be easily shared. CIDM's award honors Raymond for developing a best practice of outstanding vision and customer focus in the management of information development.

"This technology allows Raymond to easily share, with our dealers, a tremendous amount of information found in our manuals," says Charles Dowdell, manager of Technical Publications at The Raymond Corporation. "The electronic format simplifies version-control management of documents, saves space on service vehicles and makes it more efficient for dealers to service products quickly to improve customers' uptime."

CIDM's Rare Bird award annually recognizes one company's development of a best practice that is innovative, increases efficiency and productivity, provides a customer benefit, transforms an organization from ordinary to extraordinary, can be transferred to other organizations, and demonstrates leadership. Dowdell accepted the award on Raymond's behalf at the annual CIDM Best Practices Conference on Sept. 17, 2007.
