PTDA Executive Vice President to Retire

Chicago, Ill.-July 30, 2009-After 15 years of leading the power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) industry's premier association, Mary Sue Lyon announced she will be retiring as executive vice president of the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) at the end of 2010.

In a letter to PTDA's members, past PTDA president John Masek of Bearing Service Inc. (Livonia, Mich.) and current PTDA president Drew Tucci of Eastern Bearings, Inc. (Waltham, Mass.) commended Ms. Lyon on her "outstanding leadership and commitment to making PTDA into the premier networking and educational organization in our industry."

Lyon joined PTDA as the executive vice president in August 1994. During her tenure, the Association:
  • Expanded its presence in the global community with the founding of the European Power Transmission Distributors Association (EPTDA) and in establishing the annual PTDA Canadian Conference.
  • Fostered relationships between PT/MC distributors and manufacturers through strategic and governance interaction as well as with refinements to the networking events during the PTDA Industry Summit.
  • Improved profitability for industrial distribution by streamlining processes with the creation of industry formats such as the Product & Price Information Format (PPIF).
  • Focused on the future by launching the Industrial Careers Pathway® program under the auspices of the PTDA Foundation.

Ms. Lyon admits the decision to retire was a tough one to make. "My 15 years at PTDA have been a pleasure and that is largely due to the individuals who have shown great leadership, vision and commitment to the Association and the industry," said Lyon. "It has been fun, rewarding and, yes, at times challenging."

A search committee has been formed with the intent of having a new executive vice president in place by September 2010.
