Process Instrumentation and Control Engineering in Ethanol Production

Peterborough, Ontario/Canada - Siemens has equipped the Kawartha Ethanol bioethanol production facility in Havelock, Canada with process instrumentation and control engineering.

This involves process devices for level, pressure, temperature and flow measurement, along with weighing systems, all of which are controlled by the Simatic PCS 7 process control system. The Siemens products are helping Kawartha Ethanol to reduce energy costs in Havelock while simultaneously increasing production. Bill Harris, electrical supervisor, explains: "We can depend on the precision and reliability of this system to give us the tools and data that we need to operate efficiently and safely."

Located two hours from Toronto, Canada, Kawartha Ethanol has a production capacity of 80 million liters of 99% fuel-grade ethanol each year.

A video entitled 'Corn for Cars' demonstrates the use of Siemens products at Kawartha Ethanol in Havelock.
