President Obama Visits Phoenix Contact at Hannover Messe

Middletown, Pa. - President Barack Obama today visited the Phoenix Contact booth at the Hannover Messe in Germany. The president and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with Frank Stuehrenberg, Phoenix Contact CEO, and Jack Nehlig, president of Phoenix Contact USA.

Stuehrenberg and Nehlig demonstrated one of Phoenix Contact’s technologies, a fast-charging plug for electric vehicles for the European and American markets, known as the CCSplus. The CCSplus is a new cable that can charge at up to 350 A, compared to typical charging stations, which are 30 A. It enables a vehicle to charge in about five minutes.

Hannover Messe is the world’s largest industrial trade show, and attracts more than 220,000 people from around the world each year. President Obama is the first sitting U.S. president ever to attend the show. With the U.S. as the partner country for 2016, Hannover Messe is highlighting American businesses and promoting investment in American manufacturing.

Phoenix Contact, one of the largest exhibitors at Hannover Messe, is a German manufacturer with U.S. headquarters in Middletown, Pa. Since establishing an American subsidiary in 1981, the company has grown to employ 700 people in the U.S., including 500 at its Middletown location. The Middletown facility includes 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

"We are honored that President Obama and Chancellor Merkel took the time to visit our company during their Hannover Messe tour," said Nehlig. "Phoenix Contact USA is an outstanding example of the SelectUSA initiative and how German investment in the U.S. market can benefit both countries."
