Polytec LSV Sensors: Process Optimization Starts with Precise Measurements

More and more Converting Plants are optimizing the process by replacing measuring wheels with the laser accurate LSv length speed sensors. The noncontact nature of the LSV eliminates the typical issues associated with contact methods such as slippage, changing circumference and marking of the product. There are a large range of application in plants processing films, foils, paper, cardboard, woven/nonwovens, membrances, fibers, tapes and more.

The LSV measures both Speed and Length, which can be critical requirements for many processes. For example, speed measurements are used frequently for synchronizing some action with material speed such as flying cutters, printing, lamination, lettering, etc. In addition, two LSV’s can be used in line to directly measure stretch, draw, elongation or compression of the material, as it is processed. Length measurements are integrated into the control loop for critical applications such as surface inspection profiles or for final length at winders, rewinder and slitters.

The measurement technique is a based on the non-contact principle of laser Doppler shift and is independent of surface properties. Whether soft, sticky, humid, solid, fibrous or woven – the LSV sensors operate reliably and are robust to survive process environments without marking, changing or damaging the material surface in any way.

In processes where verifiable machines are required and applied, the Polytec LSV-MID is employed. For this system the PTB issues a test certificate which affirms the confirmity to the relevant MID and Welmec guidelines. The LSV-MID combines the high measurement accuracy of Polytec sensors with a comfortable accessibility to the stored data via ethernet.

We look forward to your visit at our trade show booth to discuss your application requirements in greater detail.
