Register Now: ISO/IEC Standards and Policy Conference and Training in Geneva
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) have released the agendas for the full-day conference and half-day training course on “Using and referencing ISO and IEC standards to support public policy, ” to take place November 2-3, 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland. The events are a collaborative effort to connect national and international policymakers with the standards development community to share ideas and effective best practices.
As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to consider attending the event, and to read more about the relationship between ISO and IEC standards and public policy. The conference and training course are the latest examples of continuing efforts by ISO and IEC to help policy makers understand the benefits of standards. Speakers from industry, government, and international organizations will explore how IEC and ISO International Standards can support technical regulations and other policy initiatives at both national and international levels.
The organizations published a brochure in early 2015 focused on the same topic.
The conference will be held on November 2 at the United Nations Palais des Nations. Sessions will underscore the many ways in which international standards can support public policy goals. Participants will get an overview of the benefits of referencing standards in regulations, and how standards can help implement policy commitments taken at the global level including sustainability, resilience, and development goals. The half-day training course, to be held at ISO Central Secretariat on November 3, will be an overview of the practical aspects of how to reference IEC and ISO International Standards in policy, the different methods of referencing standards in technical regulation, risks of specific methods, copyright issues, and more.
