Plasmatreat North America and Automation Engineering Inc. Announce Release of New Plasma Clean Module

WILMINGTON, Mass., – Boston-based Automation Engineering Inc. (AEi) and Illinois-based Plasmatreat North America (Plasmatreat) are pleased to announce the release of the fully integrated Plasmatreat cleaning module for the AEi Modular CMAT (Camera Module Assembly and Test) system.

AEi has partnered with Plasmatreat to develop a fully integrated plasma cleaning option used in the production of camera modules for a variety of applications, including automotive rear and frontview cameras, wearable consumer sports cameras and security markets.

This is the industry's only fully integrated plasma clean system that provides in-line cleaning of components immediately prior to dispensing and aligning. Plasma technology is used to treat the surface of both the lens and the camera housing prior to the epoxy dispense, resulting in improved wetting, superior grip, and more thorough removal of particles creating a more consistent, complete adhesion.

"Plasma pre-treatment is fast becoming an absolute requirement for automotive, high shock, and harsh environment camera module manufacturing," asserts George Rose, Director of Product Strategy at AEi, "because perfectly clean surfaces and reliable, replicable adhesion are vital to the performance and long-term reliability of the finished product."

"The performance, flexibility and reliability of the Plasma-Treat systems is a perfect match for AEi's CMAT," notes Rose, "by integrating this step into the overall build process we further reduce variation and risk of operator error, resulting in a higher quality and yield."

Plasmatreat, too, is enthusiastic about the AEi partnership. "Here at Plasmatreat North America, we are always excited to see our technology used in innovative real-life applications," states Andy Stecher, President and CEO of Plasmatreat North America. "Automotive cameras are playing an increasingly integral role in everyday driving safety for millions of people worldwide, and we are thrilled to be included in AEi's cutting-edge modular systems."

The AEi-Plasmatreat integrated solution has shipped to a number of tier-one camera module manufacturers in the U.S., Europe and Asia and is available immediately as part of AEi's Modular CMAT platform.
