Philips Debuts New LED Daylight Daytime Running Lights on KORE OFF ROAD Winning BAJA 1000 Truck

- Legendary off-road event validates lamp reliability and durability in grueling victory-

Farmington Hills, MI... Philips Automotive Lighting North America, a leading innovator of automotive lighting technology, was a lighting equipment sponsor for Kroeker Off-Road Engineering's (KORE OFF ROAD) winning entry in the 2011 SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race. The Philips LED DayLight DRL-equipped RAM 1500, driven by Kent Kroeker and Alan Roach finished first in its class and notched several historic firsts in marking the victory. It was the first place win for a Chrysler vehicle in decades and the first desert race event for the new Mopar® 800 horsepower V-10 Competition Race Engine. It also marked the first use of the new high-powered Philips LED DayLight DRLs in racing competition.

Philips LED DayLight daytime running lights demonstrated exceptional ruggedness and durability during the 700 mile, 15-hour challenge which featured difficult and jarring terrain, aggressive vehicle contact, and a race course that had been reduced to a quagmire of mud, exposed rocks and ruts by recent torrential rains.
First in class, 30th of 278 overall

In addition to capturing first place in the Class 8 bracket, the KORE OFF ROAD team also came in 30th overall out of 278 entries. Kent Kroeker noted that the team's engine, drivetrain and suspension set up worked very well while the HID light system and Philips DRLs "turned night into day." The Philips DRLs also provided an extra margin of safety for the team and the competitors. Kroeker explains, "The light temperature/color of the Philips DRLs was perfect to cut through the daytime dust, indicating our position while passing other race vehicles. The lights also provided spectators with our position prior to hearing our motor. We use an amber dust light in the rear of the vehicle to indicate position for safety; the Philips DRLs are a perfect choice for the front end to accomplish the same thing."

Styling and performance in an innovative design

Philips LED DayLight daytime running lights deliver the look of today's high-end, high performance cars and feature high-power Philips LUXEON® Rebel LEDs that project a powerful, bright white light. The Philips LED DRL produce a wider beam than the average DRL, which provides drivers immediate safety benefits by substantially increasing the vehicle's visibility to other drivers and pedestrians. The Philips LED DRLs are available in LED DayLight 8 and LED DayLight 4 configurations, and come with plug n' play connectors and snap-in mounts for very easy installation on any vehicle.
