Pepperl+Fuchs Intrinsically Safe Solutions Receive Marine-Type Approvals

TWINSBURG, OH - Pepperl+Fuchs K-System, H-System and Z-Series intrinsically safe solutions, have received BV (Bureau Veritas), GL (Germanischer Lloyd), LR (Lloyds Register) and DNV (Det Norske Veritas) approvals for use in marine-type applications. These unbiased, third-party agencies confirm that these products conform to the latest standards and particular specifications required for rugged marine environments, and validate Pepperl+Fuchs' commitment to quality and safety. The approvals are recognized and accepted globally, so that worldwide users can be confident that the products are certified safe.

"Intrinsic safety barriers are a core component of an intrinsically safe solution. These devices limit current, voltage, and total energy delivered to a sensor or other instrument located in a hazardous area. Limiting the energy prevents fires and explosions from occurring in areas with hazardous chemicals, gases or other ignitable atmospheres," says Robert Schosker, Product Manager. "And having obtained marine approvals, Pepperl+Fuchs is now able to provide complete intrinsic safety systems to meet the specific hazardous area safety needs in marine-type applications."

K-System intrinsic safety barriers are a complete range of products designed for discrete or analog signals. K-System intrinsic safety barriers carry all major approval marks and are used worldwide. These intrinsic safety barriers connect easily with Pepperl+Fuchs' exclusive PowerRail system. By using PowerRail, a group of safety barriers is energized from an AC or DC source and monitored for group fault conditions. The PowerRail and IS barrier combination allows for simple expansion with no additional wires, and enables users to design multiple redundant power configurations.

H-System intrinsic safety barriers are backplane mounted isolated barriers. Isolated intrinsic safety barriers and custom circuit board assemblies are combined into a cost effective project-based solution. The circuit board assembly is designed for standard and customer specific applications. Interface circuit boards are equipped with connectors and circuitry that replicates the same hardware used in a fully engineered solution for a Distributed Control System (DCS).

Z-Series zener diode barriers are an economical hardware method for solving hazardous area barrier & intrinsic safety applications. Pepperl+Fuchs' zener diode barriers feature an encapsulated housing, are suitable for DIN rail mounting and are ideal for AC and DC applications. High current models, and models with a removable fuse network, are available.
