People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.
The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), a public-private partnership led by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) government member the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has announced the appointment of Susan Hoyler as the panel’s director of technical operations. Ms. Hoyler will work with SGIP technical group leaders as part of an effort to make SGIP’s processes more efficient.
Ms. Hoyler previously worked as the senior manager for regulatory and technical strategy at ANSI member QUALCOMM Incorporated, where she monitored activities connected to the intellectual property rights (IPR) of U.S. and international standards groups, along with government policies on related issues. Prior to that, she was the director for standards development and promotion at ANSI member and accredited standards developer the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). Ms. Hoyler previously served as vice chair to the ANSI Committee on Education (CoE) and as an industry representative on the ANSI Executive Standards Council (ExSC). She earned a bachelor of science degree in Japanese from Georgetown University.
SGIP was created in 2009 to provide an open forum for members to collaborate on standards development related to Smart Grid interoperability technology needed to modernize the nation’s electric power system. The panel seeks to provide a framework to assist stakeholders in speeding up the harmonization and interoperability of Smart Grid devices and systems.
