ON Semiconductor Takes a Leading Position within APEC 2016

Multiple seminars during the week alongside several on-booth new technology demonstrations

Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) – Booth 1625 – Long Beach, CA – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficiency innovations, has announced a significant involvement in APEC 2016, a flagship event for the global power electronics industry.

During the event, seven senior technical members of ON Semiconductor’s applications engineering and research teams will be sharing vital knowledge through a series of professional education seminars and industry sessions. The sessions will cover a wide and varied range of topics relevant to today’s engineering community including design challenges in fast analytical techniques; small signal modeling; non-linear thermal topics; next generation Li-Ion power management; high power, high voltage IGBTs; and other energy efficient innovations.

Alongside the seminars, at the ON Semiconductor booth, engineers will have the opportunity to view at least a dozen demonstrations of leading technology – including some items being shown for the very first time. Key demonstrations include:

High frequency Quasi-Resonant Flyback Controller

High frequency quasi-resonant flyback is the next evolution in achieving small form factor adapters for the computing and consumer segment.  It enables small size components while achieving high efficiency which results in high power density.  The NCP1339 and NCP1340 are the latest generation high frequency quasi-resonant flyback controllers.  Synchronous rectification is also a key part of achieving higher efficiency and the new NCP43080 with a large 8A/4A driver provides high efficiency from full load down to no load.  The combination of these two devices enables the smallest Ultra High Density AC/DC Adapters available in the market today.

20W charger for smartphone / tablets with Qualcomm Quick ChargeTM 3.0 and Type-C connector

The NCP4371 reference design demonstrates the new Qualcomm QC3.0 quick charge protocol over the new Type-C connector.  With Qualcomm’s High Voltage Dedicated Charging Port (HVDCP)it provides an adjustable output voltage between 3.6 and 20 VDC for latest generation smart phones, tablets and Bluetooth enabled devices. The charger design features the NCP4371 Quick Charge controller, NCP1361E Quasi-Resonant controller and NCP43080 Synchronous Rectification controller and is one of only two designs certified by UL/Qualcomm to meet the newly released standard.

Security camera featuring ultra-small, micro-step motor driver

The LV8714TA is an extremely energy efficient dual stepper motor driver. With low on-resistance power MOSFETs, loss-less current sensing, synchronous rectification, and ultra-low standby current, the device offers best-in-class energy efficient system solution. Integrated regulators enable a one-chip, single supply system solution.

Other exciting new technology demonstrations will include Power Integrated Modules, High Current IGBT Gate drivers, New Generation (Ultra Field Stop) IGBTs, LED drivers, PWM controllers, motor controllers and blower fans.
