OK International Webinar Promotes Safe Management of Solder Fumes in the Workplace

OK International is preparing a free webinar designed to provide guidance on how to safely manage solder fumes. Being held during two different time slots on June 7th 2011, the webinar will outline why an efficient fume extraction system is vital to ongoing business productivity. With online registration now open, the webinar is expected to be extremely popular with employers looking to safeguard their workplace.

Speaking about the forthcoming webinar, OK International Product Manager, Andy Cotton, explains: "Today's electronics workplace contains numerous hazardous airborne substances. It's widely recognized that serious health problems can arise from the inhalation of these fumes - it's one of the most significant causes of occupational asthma in fact. While this is obviously extremely damaging on a personal level for employees in the workplace, it's also a major practical concern for employers, leading to reduced business productivity, re-recruiting and re-training costs and, potentially, litigation. Here at OK International, we know that such pitfalls can be easily avoided, which is why we've launched the fume extraction webinar"

When solder flux is heated above 183°C, a complex mixture of resin acid particulates (smoke) and gases are generated. This process is known as colophony and can be generated from hand soldering, solder pots, solder fountains, wave solder machines and reflow ovens. Plus, when using adhesives and solvents, vapors are produced from applications such as PCB cleaning, right through to conformal coating. While even synthetic and no-clean fluxes can lead to serious lung irritation, all hazardous fumes can be easily removed with an efficient fume extraction system.

The hour-long webinar from OK International will use accessible tutorials and a Q&A session to show attendees how to safely manage solder fumes in the workplace. The webinar will be run by leading OK International technical experts with years of experience in the fume extraction field. Being held at 10am UK time/11am Western European time and 1pm East Coast time/10am US West Coast time, the webinar's dual time-slots are designed to be as convenient as possible for busy schedules. Online registration is now open, for more information, please contact Ed Zamborsky or Andy Cotton.
