NTSB Offers New Course on Mass Casualty Incidents



WASHINGTON – The National Transportation Safety Board is offering a new course for emergency managers, law enforcement, hospitals, and the medicolegal community focused on managing the victim accounting process following transportation-related mass casualty incidents.



The course, which will be held at the NTSB Training Center just outside Washington, DC, on October 14-15, will examine the core principles for managing the transition from first response and life safety operations to the victim accounting process. A combination of lectures and case study discussions are provided by course instructors that have led mass casualty and mass fatality responses both inside the United States and internationally.



The NTSB’s instructors will be joined by several guest lecturers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Institute of Justice, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the New York City Office of Emergency Management, and the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.



The course focuses on the need for agencies to understand the roles and responsibilities of the various entities involved in victim accounting operations, specifically within the context of transportation accidents. And it brings these individuals together to participate in a multidisciplinary training environment that emphasizes the common objectives of a transportation mass casualty response.
