Noted Expert on Automation Systems Jerry Yen Joins Mitsubishi Electric Automation
VERNON HILLS, Ill., February 2, 2009 - Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc., a global industrial automation company, announced today that Jerry Yen, a recognized authority on automation control systems, has been named director of the company's new Custom Solutions Center.
Yen comes to Mitsubishi following a 25-year career with General Motors, where he rose to be the technical fellow and principal engineer for the Controls, Conveyors, Robotics, and Welding (CCRW) Group within the GM Manufacturing Engineering organization. In 1994, Yen, together with colleagues at GM, initiated the Open Modular Controls Architecture (OMAC) effort in the automation industry and subsequently became one of the founders and co-chairman of the OMAC Users Group, a global organization for automation and manufacturing professionals.
In his role as director of the new Custom Solutions Center, Yen will be responsible for integrating Mitsubishi Electric and partner products, combining products to create solutions for specific industries, and engineering and testing new product capabilities with existing installed assets.

Yen began his career in manufacturing in 1980 at the Industrial Electronic Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He joined General Motors in 1983 as a project engineer.
From 1988 to 1996, he was supervisor of Development Engineering for the Machine Intelligence Department in Warren, Michigan. He held responsibilities for advanced engineering and advanced manufacturing engineering.
From 1996 to 2006, Yen was with the General Motors Powertrain Group - rising from manager of Common Control Technologies to technical fellow. From 2006 until he joined Mitsubishi, he was the technical fellow and principal engineer for the CCRW group in the GM Manufacturing Engineering organization. In that position, he led the technology investigation and development for controls architecture and plant floor systems integration. He was also responsible for evaluating and validating alternate programmable controller platforms.
Yen holds Master of Science degrees from Ohio State University, Columbus, in both Physics and Electrical Engineering. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he graduated with high distinction. Yen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Jen University, Taipei, Taiwan.
