Norwalk Concrete Industries Completes New Production Facility in Norwalk, Ohio

Norwalk Concrete Industries began production this week in 22,000 square feet of new production space at their Commerce Drive plant. The $2 million investment includes a precast concrete building fabricated by Norwalk, four heavy cranes, production equipment and a 135 kilowatt solar energy field off Laylin Road. The company expects to add ten skilled employees as the precast product line expands to meet new industry standards and customer needs. NCI will continue to operate the Woodlawn Avenue plant with a different product mix.

Company President John Lendrum explains, “future growth was limited with existing plant space. Our customer base requires more capacity and faster turnaround of orders.” The new production area will improve work flow, permit new technology to be introduced to the plant floor, and adds heavy crane capacity for larger structural types of precast products to be made. Lendrum added, “2015 was a new record for concrete yards cast in our plants and it took every corner of the plant and outside production space to accomplish that.” He expects the new facility to increase efficiency and improve employee safety.

Founded in 1906 as a burial vault and concrete form supplier, Norwalk Concrete Industries has grown to a regional supplier of precast concrete products and services for heavy/ highway construction, utility structures, site development work, water and wastewater components, industrial and residential markets in Ohio and adjacent states. Norwalk’s modular precast building line has installations across the Midwest.

Vice President Jeff Malcolm is focused on what the additional space will do for long term sales growth. The company motto “you dream it, we’ll cast it” was created by Malcolm years ago to demonstrate NCI will do what is needed to meet the challenges customers face in the construction process. According to Malcolm, “we embrace new ideas and product lines that creatively use precast products to meet construction challenges.” Norwalk is heavily involved in environmental products that impact storm water quality, wastewater treatment and energy product lines. With new plant capacity Malcolm plans to actively promote precast structures for semi underground waste containment systems.

As the Company starts its 110th year in the Norwalk, Lendrum notes the daily focus that employees work towards, “Customer First, Quality Sells, Do It Safely and Learn. We look forward to the exciting opportunity everyone at NCI has with our expansion. ” Norwalk Concrete Industries is designated as a Certified Plant by the National Precast Concrete Association and has won national recognition for innovative precast concrete solutions.
