Northwire Joins EMerge Alliance in Pursuit of Electrical and Electronic Global Standards for New Generation of Buildings

OSCEOLA, Wis.-Northwire, Inc. has joined the EMerge Alliance, an industry association promoting the rapid adoption of safe low-voltage DC power distribution and its use in commercial building interiors. Northwire is developing electrical cable products to meet EMerge Alliance global standards that will define a new generation of electrical and electronic infrastructure in adaptable, sustainable buildings-"the buildings of tomorrow."

EMerge Alliance is focused on developing standards that integrate interior infrastructures, power, controls and a variety of peripheral devices, such as lighting, in a common platform. These standards will help building owners gain unprecedented design and space flexibility, reduced energy use and improved sustainability.

"Northwire is collaborating with this elite group of companies to become leaders in low-voltage DC power distribution for commercial and residential building interiors," says Ken Anderson, regional sales manager of Northwire, Inc. "The efforts of alliance members will move an entire global industry toward safe, energy-efficient products that future generations will reap the benefits of for decades."

According to Brian Patterson, general manager of business development for Armstrong World Industries and chairman of the EMerge Alliance, the economic and environmental benefits of eliminating one-time device use are significant. "Alliance members will focus on developing power-efficient and reusable components with device interoperability for an energy-constrained future," says Patterson. "Using energy-efficient devices that can use power directly from on-site alternative-energy sources like wind and solar will provide unprecedented savings."

EMerge Alliance standards will allow direct access to safe power; enable easy repurposing and reconfiguration without rewiring; give commercial building owners a way to maximize room and floor reconfigurations and stop the cycle of one-time fixture and device use; help future-proof interior spaces for new technologies such as LED lighting; promote sustainability with simpler system devices that have fewer materials; reduce energy consumption through state-of-the-art device controls and solid-state lighting; facilitate the direct connection and use of energy from solar, wind or other alternative energy sources; and provide improved energy efficiency through integrated load and source management.

EMerge Alliance members include architects, interior designers, engineering firms, government and code groups, academic and industry groups, product manufacturers and building owners.
