Nordson Kreyenborg Innovations in Melt Filtration Systems Will Be Highlighted at Nordson Corporation's Fakuma Exhibit

MÜNSTER, GERMANY, - Nordson Corporation will highlight the entire line of Nordson Kreyenborg melt filtration systems, gear pumps, and melt valves at Fakuma 2015 (Stand A6-6406).

Among the innovations in Nordson Kreyenborg melt filtration systems are:

• Self-cleaning screen changer. The V-Type screen changer has an automated, hydraulically powered backflush system that purges even heavy contaminant from the melt filter element while maintaining extrusion throughput, minimizing operator intervention, and avoiding downtime in constant-pressure processes like film and fiber extrusion or strand pelletizing. In the screen changer, melt flow from the extruder splits into four streams for filtration in two pairs of screen cavities, then the streams rejoin with no significant change in melt flow. Each pair of cavities is mounted in a piston which positions both cavities so that they can filter their respective melt streams, or removes one of them from the process to remove contaminant buildup by means of backflushing.

In normal operation, polymer is flowing through all four cavities.

While one of the cavities is changed, the other three remain in the process. The backflushing system is automated by four hydraulically actuated displacement pistons. When the differential pressure across the screen changer increases to a pre-set level because of contaminant buildup, the backflush sequence for all cavities will be started automatically.

• Compact cart for gear pump and screen changer. A concept that combines screen changer and gear pump on a single movable cart simplifies deployment of these components in an extrusion line, takes up less floor space than separately mounted machines, and provides easy access for replacement of filter media. The cart is mounted on fixed casters that permit transverse-direction movement into and out of the extrusion line, while precisely aligned movement in the extrusion direction is provided by rails installed on the floor. At the same time, linear guides on the cart permit independent extrusion-direction movement of the gear pump and screen changer.
