Niowave Receives Entrepreneur Award for Applied Superconductivity
LANSING, Michigan-Niowave, Inc. announced that Dr. Terry L. Grimm has been awarded the 2010 IEEE Entrepreneurship Award for Applied Superconductivity. Dr. Grimm accepted the award on August 2 at the Applied Superconductivity Conference in Washington DC. This international award was presented for the founding of Niowave and its commercialization of superconducting linear accelerators.
Niowave, Inc. is a Lansing based high-tech research and manufacturing company specializing in superconducting particle accelerators. Founded in 2005, Niowave's state of the art facilities produce accelerators for domestic and overseas customers for research, medical, defense and industrial applications. In 2009 Niowave was named among the "Michigan 50 Companies to Watch". In June 2010, Niowave became the first commercial entity worldwide to build and operate a superconducting linear accelerator. Over the next two years Niowave plans to double its staff and acquire a second manufacturing facility to assemble and test superconducting particle accelerators.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Rosner Entrepreneurship Award recognizes the potential impact of superconductivity on the fields of electrical engineering, physics, medicine and energy by rewarding entrepreneurs who have established a successful business based on a property of superconductivity. The IEEE is the largest technical professional society in the world. Founded in 1884, IEEE's core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE now serves over 395,000 members and their interests with 38 societies; 130 journals, transactions and magazines; more than 300 conferences annually; and 900 active standards.
