New Rapid Prototype's with Functional Connector Integration for Cable Assemblies

ISC Engineering has pushed the envelope to bring new life to rapid prototype models for custom molded cable assemblies. Typically models are designed on CAD software such as SolidWorks® which is then uploaded onto a 3D printer. The 3D printer can replicate the body of a connector but cannot recreate the moving component(s) or recessed pin holes.

ISC saw the opportunity for improvement and designed the connector body in two sections to encapsulate the actual connector. By integrating the actual connector into the prototype over-mold body the user can verify critical tolerances and aesthetics of the part.

Since actual tooling used for injection molding can range from 2- 8 week depending on tool alloy, complexity of the tool, texture and other elements; a prototype is a cost effective option to have a proof of concept. Identifying a problem with the prototype will also help to save time and money from a retooling perspective.
