New Instrumentation at Chemir

January 29, 2008, St. Louis, MO - New instrumentation allows Chemir's scientists to analyze a broader range of materials, including coatings, colloidal dispersions, nanoparticles and gas samples.

A newly acquired Modulated Differential Scanning Calorimeter helps solve coatings adhesion problems and troubleshoot scratch/mar resistance issues due to improper curing. Equipped with an auto-sampler for efficient test runs, the Q-2000 MDSC allows for the determination of thermal curing problems in a wide variety of materials. Also, an enhanced Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) with a micro FTIR enables Chemir staff to analyze specimens too small for conventional FTIR, such as particles in a coating.

A new Zeta Potential Analyzer allows for direct electrokinetic measurements without the restrictions of conventional microelectrophoresis techniques. Particle mobility and Zeta potential are measured simultaneously with pH, conductivity and temperature. Aqueous and non-aqueous sample dispersions may be analyzed. This new instrument gives information that relates to the stability of colloidal dispersions and broadens Chemir's array of instruments specific for nanoparticle analysis.

Chemir Analytical Services has also expanded the capabilities of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) instrumentation. By adding a six port gas sampling valve to a GC/MS, Chemir now has the capability to sample directly from various sources such as Tedlar bags or gas cylinders. This allows for detection and analysis of natural gas, mobile gases and propellants.

About Chemir Analytical Services

Chemir Analytical Services solves challenging manufacturing and industrial problems involving chemical analysis and material testing. Since 1959 this independent laboratory has solved thousands of issues involving material analysis, contaminant and impurity identification, deformulation (reverse engineering), formulation, product failure analysis, stability testing, analytical method development, patent, intellectual property, and other legal challenges for over 6000 clients. Many of Chemir's clients are Fortune 500 companies. The scientific staff of 35, including 10 Ph.D. level chemists, uses state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation and expert interpretations to assist such industries as polymers, plastics, packaging, paints and coatings, food and beverage, personal care, consumer products, specialty chemicals, semiconductor and high-tech materials and more.
