New In-vehicle Computers from Logic Supply Withstand Temperatures of 150 Degrees

The wide-temp Nuvo-3100VTC and RT100 join the expanding line of transportation systems offered by industrial PC leader Logic Supply.

(South Burlington, VT) - After years of continued development, the technology of in-vehicle computing is finally beginning to catch up with the demand for mobile systems that can perform in the extreme environments of many automotive applications. Industrial Embedded PC company Logic Supply today unveiled a pair of specialized, wide-temperature mobile computer systems designed for in-vehicle installations, asset tracking, and fleet management, with maximum operating temperatures in excess of 150 degrees fahrenheit.

“We’ve been seeing growing demand for systems with a wide range of connectivity options that are also able to stand up to the rigors of harsh-environment mobile installations,” said Logic Supply Product Manager JP Ishaq. “Both of these systems offer an expansive suite of IO, giving them enormous operational flexibility, but they both still maintain the rugged design and rock-solid enclosure standards that have become our trademark.”

The bright yellow Nuvo-3100VTC measures 8.27" x 2.32" x 6.5" and is compact enough to be easily tucked under a seat or behind a dashboard. The flat black RT100 measures 7.17" x 2.04" x 6.60" and is designed for ultimate installation flexibility. It can be easily mounted beneath seats or in a vehicle trunk. Both new systems have been engineered to withstand temperatures of up to 158 degrees fahrenheit, all without fans or external vents.

The extreme temperature performance of these new systems is accomplished by utilizing the entire external case as a heat sink, allowing the internal components to expel any excess heat directly through the case, where it can be dissipated by the outside airflow.

“Most of our customers will never push an in-vehicle computer to the extreme thermal limits that these new systems are capable of,” said Ishaq. “But many of the industrial automotive applications we see require a system that’s far more rugged than average hardware, and we prefer to have the extra headroom in all of our system specifications.”

Expansion options for the RT100 include three PCIe Mini-Card slots, 3 USB 2.0 ports, DVI-I, dual GbE LAN, GPIO, a pair of SIM card slots, an optional CAN bus interface module and 4 SMA-type external antenna connectors ideal for GSM fleet management tracking. Even with all of its capabilities the RT100 is priced at only $829.50.
