NEMA's "Real Safety" Campaign Wins Award from the Business Marketing Association

ROSSLYN, Va., June 30, 2008 -The Real Safety campaign for tamper-resistant receptacles received Honorable Mention in the Public Relations Campaign category at the 2008 Business Marketing Association ACE Awards, held June 17 in New York City.

Real Safety combined public relations, video and online marketing to raise awareness of the 2008 National Electrical Code® (NEC) requirement for tamper-resistant receptacles to be installed in new homes, and to advocate Code adoption. The educational and impactful Real Safety video served as the primary component, supported by fact sheets, press releases and other public relations materials.

Since the campaign's launch in December 2007, nearly 20 states and local jurisdictions have either begun to enforce the tamper-resistant Code or have voted to adopt it by the end of this year.

"This is a remarkable campaign, because it uses the same resources to educate several audiences - electrical professionals, medical experts, building and legislative officials, and even parents. Furthermore, we know that campaign elements have influenced some decisions to adopt the Code," said Helen Cook, industry director at NEMA. "It's so rewarding to see a project achieve its purpose, and this recognition makes it extra special."

The ACE awards have honored the best in business-to-business creative work for more than 25 years. While the New York City BMA chapter hosts the event, the competition drew 436 entries from across the United States and as far away as Australia.

Eric Mower and Associates, the advertising and public relations firm managing NEMA's campaign, submitted the entry.
