National Adhesives Flyer Spotlights Versatile Transdermal Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

BRIDGEWATER, NJ, October 17, 2007 - A new full-color flyer published by National Adhesives describes how the company's DURO-TAK® acrylic-rubber hybrid products combine the best features of acrylic and rubber in a transdermal pressure sensitive adhesive. The technology platform provides benefits in drug solubility, alcohol resistance, skin adhesion, and formulating versatility.

According to the flyer, the unique versatility of the adhesives accommodates a much wider range of drugs than any standard acrylic, silicone or polyisobutylene adhesive system. The inherent feature of the acrylic-rubber hybrid technology is stable two-phase morphology, which enables solubility of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs in corresponding domains of the dried adhesive film. Drug solubility in either phase may be enhanced for higher drug loading or decreased to achieve higher thermodynamic activity by custom formulation. It is also possible to create blends with compatible or incompatible polymers for additional control of solubility or adhesion characteristics.
