NAM Commends Administration's Initiative to Protect Nation's Cyber-Infrastructure

Working With Private Sector On Cybersecurity Incentives is Key

WASHINGTON, D.C. June 3, 2009 -- In response to the Administration's release of its Cyberspace Policy Review, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Director of Technology Policy Marc-Anthony Signorino, issued the following statement:

The President's Cyberspace Policy Review is a welcome first step in protecting our nation's cyber-infrastructure. We commend the President for taking this initiative and also for working with the private sector to begin developing an approach that relies on incentives, rather than cumbersome regulation, to promote good cyber hygiene.

Manufacturers are increasingly turning to the Internet to streamline and economize their daily operations. From cost-saving VoIP Internet telephony to just-in-time manufacturing, high-speed broadband access has made the world a smaller place, allowing every business to operate on a global scale regardless of its size.

Our cyber-infrastructure is a vulnerable ecosystem that needs to be protected, and securing the network is the first line of defense. The President's Cyberspace Policy Review is an excellent beginning.

The National Association of Manufacturers is the nation's largest industrial trade association, representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NAM has 11 additional offices across the country. Visit the NAM's web site at www.nam.org for more information about manufacturing and the economy.
