Multi-Parameter Enviro Monitoring in Healthcare Centers

Joint Commission-compliant System for Hospitals and Clinics

CHESTERLAND, OH – For comprehensive environmental monitoring in hospital surgeries and cleanrooms, the Accsense Wireless Environmental Data Logger monitors several parameters including Temperature, Humidity and Pressure. Fully compliant with Joint Commission guidelines, Accsense is the choice of many of the best healthcare centers in the US including Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Boston Children's Hospital, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, among many others. In this apps note CAS DataLoggers shows how an Accsense system can handle continual monitoring, alarming, and data storage.

Monitor Multiple Parameters:

An Accsense wireless system can continually monitor any healthcare environment from medical storage units, incubators, liquid nitrogen chambers, cleanrooms, patient care areas, operating rooms and more.

Users can log and scale many values including:

  • Temperature in Celcius and Fahrenheit

  • Relative Humidity (RH%)

  • Pressure and Differential Pressure

  • Environmental Monitoring helps detect when HVAC systems fail

  • Alarm Notification of Power and Internet Outages

Accsense monitoring systems can also monitor Voltage, Current, Light, and Vibration readings—practically any value you need. Each model of datalogger can operate on either battery or AC power.

Accsense Features Overview:

  • Accsense alarm systems automatically send Email, SMS text message, Pager or Phone alerts

  • Accsense also sends Power or Internet outage notifications

  • Continually monitor and log your data and view real-time data

  • Gain remote access to your data with online graphing, reporting and configuration features

  • Complies with FDA, JCAHO, AABB, and other industry standards

Wireless Gateway:

An  Accsense  B1-06  Wireless  Data  Logger  Gateway with built-in 10/100BaseT Ethernet enables connection between the pods' data and the Internet.  The wireless datalogger  automatically  sends  all  its  data  to  the gateway which in turn immediately sends it out to the Web. The  pods' wireless gateway supports  as many as 16  sensor  pods,  as  well  as  DHCP  and  static  IP addressing.  Diagnostic  LEDs  show  the  room's  current environmental status.

Both the pods and gateway range  out to 250' and 90' indoors  (with  pods  able  to  act  as  repeaters  to  boost each  other's  signals).  In  case  of  a  power  or  internet outage,  Accsense  will  alarm  the  staff  while  it  keeps logging on its 250-sample data buffer.

Automatic Alarm Notification:

Users can setup alarm triggers and receive alarms via email, cell phone, pager, or landline—Accsense can even send the same alarm to multiple recipients!

Clinic staff can download the data for offline analysis, view it in reports, charts and graphs, and administrators can modify the Accsense configuration from anywhere they're connected to the Internet.

Here's a sample voice alert from an Accsense alarm system that you will receive whenever an alarm is triggered:

Medical Refrigerators and Freezers:

If your hospital or clinic needs temperature monitoring for vaccines, Accsense makes it easy to monitor one or more medical refrigerators and/or freezers. The A2-05 Ethernet Temperature Data Logger is designed for temperature measurement and alarm in medical refrigerators, freezers, cryogenic storage and incubators. This temperature recorder has connections for external RTD and Thermocouple sensors. In the event of a loss of the network connection, the datalogger will store up to 256 data points, or log until the connection is restored. We also offer a WiFi version.

If you need an all-in-one solution, the A2-05 Vaccine Temperature Monitoring Kit bundles the A2-05 datalogger, an AC Power adapter, an RTD probe, a Glycol Buffer Vial to stabilize temperature readings, and a 1-Year Accsense Monitoring Plan—all for less than $1,000. The kit comes in wired and wireless versions as above.

Cleanroom Systems:

For effective cleanroom monitoring, Accsense can also connect to a commercial differential pressure sensor to continually monitor the differential pressure inside the sealed environment. For example in the event of an HVAC failure, Accsense will immediately send out alarms to multiple recipients so that staff can be notified in time to take corrective actions.

Continual monitoring of pressure is an effective form of air leak detection. By mounting an Accsense data logger just inside and outside the room, you can cover each of your pressure monitoring points. This setup archives your compliance data and also alerts you whenever there's a risk of microbes and other contaminants exiting the room.

Many cleanrooms also require monitoring of ambient temperature and humidity for patient safety and to avoid microbial growth. In case of a particle counter failure, Accsense will instantly notify staff whenever the differential pressure drops or when the temperature and humidity go outside preset limits. The system will continue to log during power or internet outages and keeps all data encrypted and secure on the Accsense servers.

Incubator Monitoring:

If you need to monitor the temperature in medical incubators to protect your products and to meet regulatory needs, our Accsense A1-08 wireless temperature data logger has 6 thermistor inputs to cover up to 6 monitoring points. We can also provide your hospital or clinic with our E1-20 Thermistor Probes made of stainless steel with 10' cabling and a temperature range of -20°C to 150°C, each of which can monitor an incubator.

For example, a common incubator setup in IVF clinics is a room containing 3 rows of 2 incubators stacked atop each other. With an Accsense installation, each of these incubators has a thermistor probe monitoring its interior leading out to the A1-08 data logger which communicates with an Accsense wireless gateway mounted on the wall.

The A1-08 wireless datalogger also has two digital inputs which enable you to alarm the open/close state of up to two incubators (or medical storage units etc.). Users can set the logger's sampling rate to create an alarm that will only alert them if 3 samples in a row show the door is open.  Additionally, if you need to monitor other parameters such as carbon dioxide and oxygen levels, we have Accsense models that can monitor any value you need—if you have a sensor for it, just plug it in and Accsense can log it!

Surgery Rooms:

If humidity gets too high in an operating room, condensation drips from the ceiling and falls from unsterilized areas such as the ceiling and light fixtures. Staff also find it difficult to work in a humid environment since the temperature feels warmer. Improve the OR room safety conditions by giving surgical staff and maintenance crew immediate warning when the surgery environment goes outside safe limits.

In this setup an Accsense A1-05 Wireless Temperature and Humidity data logger can monitor several environmental values:

  • Ambient Temperature

  • Humidity

  • Differential Pressure

The data logger measures Temperature and Humidity using its internal sensors, while it monitors differential pressure using its External 4-20mA Current Input with +20Vdc Loop for connection with a differential pressure transducer. It's easy to mount an Accsense datalogger to the wall using the supplied bracket. The data logger also features 2 digital inputs and can operate on either battery or AC power.

Online Account:

With Accsense all your data is sent online to the Cloud  right away. Users can download measurement data  for  analysis,  log  in  to  access  real-time  reports  and  graphs,  and  administrators  can  modify the system configuration online from any Internet-enabled location.  Data online can  easily be downloaded as a CSV file and loaded into most database applications.

The customizable interface and measurement dashboard shows the most recent data from the datalogger, and users can display historical data.

The Accsense Advantage:

Accsense wireless environmental monitoring systems are the choice of many healthcare facilities holding the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval including Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Boston Children's Hospital, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, among many others.
