MTS Sensors Catalog Features Linear Position Sensors for the Fluid Power Industry

New Temposonics® catalog an excellent resource for fluid power industry customers

CARY, N.C. (February 26, 2007) - MTS Systems Corp. Sensors Division has introduced a new comprehensive industrial product catalog for linear position feedback solutions for the fluid power industry. The new Temposonics® catalog features high-performance R-Series products for advanced motion control applications and the versatile G-Series product for upgrading and retrofitting of legacy Temposonics products. The superior performance and durability of MTS sensors coupled with the wide range of diagnostic, programming, and accessory options in the catalog make Temposonics solutions ideal for fluid power cylinder feedback in wood, plastic, and metal production applications.

"Our new catalog demonstrates the application breadth of our products while helping customers more easily determine the best combination of products necessary to solve their application requirements," said David Edeal, Temposonics® marketing manager for MTS. "With our extensive range of magnetostrictive sensing products and accessories, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder builders, integrators and users can enjoy true one-stop shopping and support."

Featured in the catalog are MTS' state-of-the-art smart R-Series programmable sensors, which include the improved Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) output sensors. Using a smart sensor product platform, the R-Series SSI sensor combines superior performance-1 micron position resolution and 7500 Hz update rate-with improved reliability and durability in a smaller sensor package at lower cost. The R-Series Analog output sensor is capable of producing position and velocity outputs simultaneously, making it an ideal choice for high load hydraulic cylinder applications such as fight simulators or roll presses.

All R-Series sensors are available in our external mount profile-style as well as our industry standard hydraulic or pneumatic rod-style enclosures. Unique to the RH and GH rod-style products is a removable sensor cartridge that enables cylinder feedback users to replace and upgrade their sensor products without the need to drain and subsequently purge their hydraulic fluid saving hours of costly downtime.

Also highlighted in the new catalog are MTS' expanding specialty sensor housing options. These options include the flex RF sensors, often used for extremely long stroke applications up to 400feet, such as in large hydraulic cylinders like those found on dam gates, and large press and test equipment where shipment of such a long assembled sensor would be challenge. The RF sensors can be coiled in 3feet rolls to significantly reduce shipping costs and the likelihood of damage during shipment.

Other specialty sensor housing options include the ATEX and UL-approved, explosion-proof and NEMA Type 4X sensor enclosures for hazardous and wash-down applications. Each of these options allows fluid power customers to build a linear position sensing system that will fit their specific application.

The new catalog exhibits the vast array of accessories including extension cables, magnets, mounting mechanics, and electronic power supplies, meters and interfaces. There are also sections specifically aimed at legacy sensor replacement and retrofits including sensing magnets, mounting hardware, cables and connectors.
