MSA Professional Services Acquires HDC/ASD Divisions of the Devonshire Group

Merger to offer more diversified engineering, architecture, and planning services in Central Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Nov. 9, 2010 -- MSA Professional Services has finalized the merger of ASD Architects and HDC Engineering, divisions of the Champaign based Devonshire Group. The merger will create a stronger, more diversified company, combining the private sector experience of the Devonshire Group with the specialty services and extensive municipal project experiences of MSA.

MSA Professional Services currently operates 14 offices in the four Midwestern states of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin and is 100 percent employee owned. The Champaign location will be the second Illinois office for MSA who has served Northern Illinois through their Galena location since the 1970s. The Champaign location will take on the name of MSA Professional Services.

"This partnership is in line with the long range planning strategies of both organizations. Together, MSA and HDC/ASD can continue to offer single source solutions with strengthened specialties in expanded markets throughout Central Illinois," MSA Professional Services CEO Jim Owen said. "The Devonshire Group has built a solid reputation in the commercial development arena. By joining forces with MSA, we can enhance that strength, offering our expertise and trusted experience in municipal planning and engineering with a cross platform approach in the specialty services area."

MSA Professional Services specializes in providing a full array of services for municipalities throughout the Midwest that are focused on creating great places to live, learn, work and play. Examples of MSA's award-winning services include the planning and design for municipal infrastructure projects, such as: major downtown revitalization efforts; streets and bridges; airports; municipal buildings including libraries, community centers, public safety facilities, and schools; parks and recreational facilities; and water distribution and waste water treatment facilities. One of the hallmarks of MSA's service is their ability to work with local governments to successfully secure state and federal funding to support projects that support the overall health, safety, and vitality of communities.

"We're looking toward the future, for the benefit of the company and our employees," Devonshire President Tom Harrington said. "MSA is a strong company whose mission and products align with the quality of work and reputation we have worked to build under the HDC/ASD names for the past 30 years. We look forward to the future of the new company and enhancing the services we provide in Central Illinois through the combining of our organizations."
