Montage Healthcare Introduces Automated Resources to Improve Patient Safety and Radiology Quality

Automated Detection and Tracking of Follow-Up Recommendations enhances radiology care delivery

CHICAGO - Montage Healthcare Solutions, Inc. will be demonstrating the latest advancement to MONTAGE™ Search and Analytics at the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting November 30-December 6. Automated Follow-Up Recommendation Detection and Tracking will enable Montage users to significantly improve the value of the radiology services they provide. Follow-up recommendations are omnipresent in radiology reports. This new Montage feature is designed to address major quality, safety, and financial outcomes associated with follow-up. The first major benefit is to track follow-up recommendations and monitor subsequent examinations to reduce the chance that a patient is lost to follow-up. Patients who are lost to follow-up present a significant medical malpractice risk when a finding is identified on a study, but the recommended follow-up examination is never performed. This feature will enable improved patient safety and care delivery while reducing exposure to malpractice risk and maintaining practice revenue. The Montage Follow-Up worklist ensures and fosters appropriate communications between radiologists and care providers enhancing the radiologists' value in care management.

"We are very excited to introduce this new capability", said William Boonn, MD, President and CEO of Montage Healthcare. "Besides the direct impact on patient safety, practice quality and revenue enhancement, we believe the heightened diligence and active participation of radiologists in long-term care management this tool enables will increase the value perception of radiology services."

With the increasing prevalence of bundled payment models and with the ongoing transition from volume to value, it is increasingly important for healthcare practices and radiologists to ensure that follow-up recommendations are made according to published guidelines and that there is consistency in follow-up recommendations made by members of the same radiology practice. The new Montage Follow-Up module will compare the frequency and rate of follow-up recommendations made by radiologists. Inter-radiologist variances can be analyzed and discussed. This tool enables practice guidelines adherence to foster recommendation consistency in your practice. Montage is continuing to work with the ACR to develop and refine meaningful quality metrics. Universal use of quality metrics, inclusive of follow-up, will foster consistency within and across practices. Follow-up consistency enhances providers' confidence in the group's findings across all practicing radiologists. This feature can reduce calls for unnecessary and inappropriate imaging, lower exposure to excess radiation, and alleviate patient anxiety.
