Transportation Projects Improving America Honored by AASHTO, AAA, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce

(Grand Rapids, MI) - The I-35W Minneapolis Bridge Replacement Project, completed three months ahead of schedule, speedily restored traffic flow in the wake of the tragic bridge collapse in 2007.

In Michigan, the I-94 Kalamazoo County Reconstruction Project - which involved rebuilding and widening a heavily traveled segment of the Interstate Highway System - was done on time and made travel along that corridor considerably smoother and safer than before.

Elsewhere in Michigan, the M-115 Clare County Improvement Project drew on innovative contracting and building techniques to reduce construction time, minimize traffic delays, and significantly improve safety and pavement conditions along a rural road.
Wisconsin's Lake Delton Highway Repair Project, seeking to remedy the damage caused by the most costly natural disaster in state history, reestablished in record time easy traffic movement to and through that economically vital area.

In Michigan, the I-44 Conway Welcome Center Project combined modern amenities with environmentally friendly technology to create state-of-the-art rest area facilities both ahead of schedule and under budget.

These are the projects selected from the Midwest to receive regional awards at the Annual Mississippi Valley Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday.

This competition - jointly sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce - is designed to honor America's very best in transportation.
