Material Handling Magazine Highlights Accountability

MHEDA Edge offers tips on creating a completely accountable work environment.

Dewitt, NY - As a part of its continued effort to provide young material handling managers with best practices that will help them grow professionally and further their careers, the April issue of MHEDA Edge features an article written by noted business expert Mike Scott. Part of the magazine's "How To" series, the article is entitled "How To: Create A Totally Accountable Work Environment." It focuses on creating a culture of accountability within an organization that improves results across the board.

According to Scott, accountability is defined as doing what you said you would do, as you said you would do it, when you said you would do it - period! It is living from this principle that builds top companies and top employees. Productivity increases when systematic accountability increases.

Scott believes that young managers should take the time to consider for a minute a company you do business with that you would regard pretty close to operating as a "totally accountable" company. It may be a dry cleaner you use, a restaurant you visit or a vendor for your company. Is it difficult to think of one? It is for most people.

To effectively improve accountability, he offers three specific ideas.

1. Enhance effective communication.

2. Delegate work more effectively.

3. Eliminate the words "I'll Try."

Want to know how to make these strategies work for your company? The only way to find out is to head over to www.mhedaedge.org and check out the online resource for young professionals in the forklift, storage and handling, conveyor and general material handling industries.
