Methodist Healthcare System Selects Process Director from BP Logix

IT Selected Product to Address Workflows, Approval Process and Tracking

SAN DIEGO - BP Logix, a developer of BPM software that accelerates time-to-value, today announced that Methodist Healthcare System has selected Process Director, and its Process Timeline™ technology. The product replaces the combination of Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project, which were being used to manage the healthcare provider's workflow and business process requirements.

Methodist Healthcare System - San Antonio is the largest provider of healthcare in South and Central Texas with 26 facilities including nine hospitals serving 90,000 inpatients and 390,000 outpatients annually. The Methodist Healthcare team is comprised of 8,000 employees. Methodist Healthcare has won the National Research Foundation's Consumer Choice Award for 13 consecutive years, more times than any other healthcare provider in Texas. Most recently, Methodist Healthcare received a "Top Performer" quality award from the Joint Commission. With more than 2,700 credentialed physicians, Methodist Healthcare provides the largest array of medical services in the region including neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, oncology and women's services.

Process Director enables users to review both current and historical data related to business processes, understands the implication of activities in running processes and instantly implements corrective action to overcome a pending problem if one is present. Process Director fuses traditional workflow automation with the Process Timeline™. As a result, it enables process builders to specify dependencies and conditions, determine the planned duration of a process and define the order for all activities within a process.

According to Ron Mann, Lead Application Developer with Methodist Health, one of the key drivers for implementing a BPM solution was to automate a process whose results are reported on to the Medical Review Board. That particular process involves 38 steps, with reimbursement tied to proper accounting and administration.

Over the course of four months the IT team evaluated five products. "We initially thought we could develop the workflows and processes within our Microsoft tools however we found the standard workflows had behaviors that rendered them unpredictable," stated Mann. "To do a custom workflow would be a lengthy and expensive process that did not appear to be workable. We looked for an off-the-shelf product and became quickly enamored with the Process Timeline as it represented a killer approach."

"We appreciate the enthusiasm that the IT department at Methodist Health has for Process Director--and the opportunity to assist the company in implementing its business process management solution," stated Jay O'Brien, CEO of BP Logix. "We are pleased that the Process Timeline can assist Methodist Health as it defines, tracks and reports on the key deliverables for this highly-auditable process," he concluded.
