February 14, 2013 - HI and Pump Systems Matter, in collaboration with Fluid Sealing Association, announced Mechanical Seals Webinar Series of 2013 will begin in March. Complimentary webinar on sealing systems energy efficiency will be held February 25, 2013. Respectively, Sections 1–4 will take place March 6, 13, 20, and 27 and focus on mechanical seal types and operating principles; construction and design; installation andÂ connections (commissioning); and seal environment and failure analysis.

Hydraulic Institute & Pump Systems Matter Announce First Mechanical Seals Webinar Series of 2013

Participants will be led by and have access to industry-leading experts in a non-commercial educational forum. Webinar series participants can receive up to four professional development hours, one PDH credit per live webinar.
The following is a schedule for the upcoming Mechanical Seals Webinar Series:
Section 1: March 6, 1:00-2:00pm EST - Mechanical Seals - Types and Operating Principles
Presenter: Eric Vanhie, EagleBurgmann
Section 1 explains how a mechanical seal works and gives an overview of the most common seal types. The objectives are to give the student a good understanding of how leakage, friction and wear of the materials interact and why many different seal types are used in pumps, agitators and compressors.
Section 2: March 13, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Mechanical Seals Construction and Design.
Presenter: Mike Huebner, Flowserve
Section 2 will cover different design features used in common seals. This section will explain the strengths and weaknesses of various design options and the impact of design features on seal performance. Mike will discuss seal faces, springs, seal glands, and more.
Section 3: March 20, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Mechanical Seals - Installation, Connections — Commissioning
Presenter: Eric Boyce, John Crane
Section 3 will cover mechanical seals used in rotary equipment, basic preparation and standards as well as support system piping plans that result in longer seal life.
Section 4: March 27, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Mechanical Seals - Seal Environment and Failure Analysis.
Presenter: Henri Azibert, A.W. Chesterton Company
Section 4 covers how to improve material selection, installation and operating procedures, and environmental controls.
