Material Handling Magazine Highlights McLaughlin

Noted speaker discusses getting on a winning streak.

Dewitt, NY - As part of its continued effort to provide young professionals in the material handling industry with best practices information that will help them optimize performance and maximize their careers, the May issue of MHEDA Edge features an article from noted speaker and business expert Peter McLaughlin. The article, entitled "How To Foster A 'Winning Streak' Mentality," teaches young managers ways to produce a thriving, results-driven work environment.

McLaughlin uses "monkey traps" as an example. These monkey traps are simple, easily escapable traps that monkeys can't escape from because of their hardheadedness. They get trapped because they're looking for food and then stay stuck because they refuse to let go of the food to escape.

Many businesses, according to McLaughlin, are just like the monkeys. He explains, "Just like the monkey, many of us are stuck in our own 'value rigidity.' Statements like, 'There's not much we can do until the economy turns around,' and 'that's not the way we do things around here,' are monkey-trap phrases. Often, we're in a rut and don't know it. A rut is just like a monkey trap - nothing is keeping us stuck except our inability to recognize that we've trapped ourselves. To change, we must start with ourselves. As Pogo once said in the famous comic, 'We have met the enemy, and they are us."

Curious to discover how to avoid these traps? The only way to find out is to head over to www.mhedaedge.org and check out the online resource for young professionals in the material handling industry.
