Marathon Machine Technologies Improves Management Effeciency
Marathon Machine Technologies LLC., a versatile job shop in Athens WI, in seeking to strengthen its internal structure has promoted Leland Wenger to the position of Operations Manager. Wenger has been employed by MMT for the past seven years and had been integrally involved in various dimensions of machining, maintenance and programming on the shop floor. His versatility will continue to be active as his responsibility will range from the purchasing of raw material to the tracking of the projects throughout the manufacturing processes.
“We started 20 years ago as a family operation in my garage.” mused founder Lee Rufener. “Like many small machine shop startups, my background is rooted in hands-on manufacturing. As the business grew, I began to realize that my abilities alone were insufficient for continued growth and efficiency. I was a blue collar man in a white collar position.”
Wenger’s talents were otherwise. He began upgrading computer software systems and integration networks. As order volume increased, it became clear that a better way to manage the flow of data throughout the manufacturing process was needed. The E2 Shop System from Shoptech Software was selected and implemented. It enables them to track everything from quotes to shipments.
“We listen to our customers.” states Rufener. “We had been working intimately with Genesis Systems Group LLC from Davenport IA for several years. While our quality and delivery were good, they detected a weakness in our inability to report on any given project at any given time. This influenced our decision to invest in shop management software and integration.” Projects are now tracked from the moment the purchase order arrives, to the time it goes out the door.
While quality and service remain the driving force to the success of MMT, the software foundations are now securely in place for a greater functional efficiency and operating capacity.
