Paper, Wood Products Manufacturers Testify in Favor of Current Ozone Standards at EPA Public Hearing
WASHINGTON – American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) President and CEO Donna Harman and American Wood Council (AWC) President and CEO Robert Glowinski have issued the following statements supporting the facts presented in the organizations’ joint testimony at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) public hearing in Sacramento, Calif. on national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for ozone.
Donna Harman, President and CEO, AF&PA:
“We are concerned that EPA is headed down the path of imposing another costly, more stringent limit that would have a negligible impact on overall air quality. Our mills are in rural areas and offer among the highest paying jobs in their communities. Recent investments are bringing declines in emissions without this new unwarranted ozone proposal.”
Robert Glowinski, President and CEO, AWC:
“The 2008 standards have not been fully implemented, leaving any resulting air quality benefits unknown, yet the agency is already and again moving the goal posts by tightening standards to scientifically unsupported levels. They are looking at the same science that was used to set the 2008 levels; nothing significant has changed since that time. EPA and states should focus on completing the steps from the previous tightening before piling on another job-threatening compliance investment that will yield little return.”
