Manufacturers Encouraged by Newly Elected Congress
Many Incoming Members Support a Pro-Manufacturing Agenda
WASHINGTON, D.C., - The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) this morning welcomed the newly elected members of the 112th Congress. Manufacturing and jobs proved to be powerful and prominent issues in the campaign.
"The American people sent a very clear message to Washington last night that the focus of the next Congress needs to be on jobs and the economy," said John Engler, president and CEO of the NAM. "Uncertainty has proven lethal to people's willingness to invest and create jobs."
"The first thing Congress needs to do is to extend all the tax cuts across the board and to pass a strengthened and permanent R&D credit to increase innovation," said Engler. "These two actions alone will create jobs and grow our economy immediately. But we also need a long-term plan, and we are asking these newly elected leaders to endorse our manufacturing strategy."
In June 2010, the NAM launched its "Manufacturing Means Jobs!" campaign with the release of the "Manufacturing Strategy for Jobs and a Competitive America," which explains in clear terms what is at stake for manufacturing in the United States and provides a roadmap for policies that will allow manufacturers to create jobs and compete.
