Lumeta's Chief Technology Officer Selected for Upcoming IPv6 Summit Panel

David Arbeitel to Discuss the Importance of Network Visibility to Ensuring Effective, Secure & Compliant Migration to IPv6

SOMERSET, N.J., March 27 / -- Lumeta, the leading provider of network assurance solutions for enterprises and government agencies, today announced that Chief Technology Officer David Arbeitel will join a distinguished panel at the upcoming US IPv6 Summit Conference taking place in Reston, Virginia. The panel discussion, titled Software and System Components of an IPv6-enabled Network, will take place on Thursday, March 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Information can be found at: http://www.usipv6.com/

IPv6 affords agencies considerable opportunity to add collaboration functionality to applications in order to deliver on the e-government mission; however, migrating to IPv6 is not without risk. The shift to IPv6 introduces major change which could negatively impact an agency's security posture, thereby counteracting much of the work that has been completed in support of FISMA.

David Arbeitel will discuss the importance of building a comprehensive, accurate baseline of IPv4 networks that comprises both devices and hosts attached to the network, as well as the actual flow of connectivity on the network. The baseline can be used to pinpoint current gaps between security policies and network defenses that could widen post-IPv6 deployment. It also provides information about the actual network architecture and how it functions relative to design and policy. This knowledge is critical for defining IPv6 network architectures and ensuring that the deployed infrastructure functions as designed. Finally, Arbeitel will discuss some of the time and cost issues associated with migration, and techniques for managing risk in a heterogeneous IPv4 and IPv6 environment.

"Those organizations which have not aligned defenses with policy may actually jeopardize prior FISMA compliance efforts when migrating to IPv6, because they may not have taken fully into account how traffic flows through their networks," said Arbeitel. "Understanding network connectivity and the infrastructure itself is key to managing any change to the network -- and even more critical given the massive scope of an IPv6 migration project."

The US IPv6 Summit is the largest IPv6 conference in North America. The focus of the summit will be the latest status of IPv6 updates, information on IPv6 standards and news of how products and services, both for network infrastructure and as essential components of other projects, are being evaluated and procured.

About Lumeta Corporation
Lumeta provides large enterprises and government agencies with the global visibility needed to quantify network risk and measure the impact of network change. Our network assurance solutions enable IT organizations to deploy new business services, maintain existing service levels, and minimize network security risk to ensure compliant operations.

Lumeta's flagship product, IPsonar, is the industry's only solution that allows organizations to measure risk from a global network perspective. IPsonar maps every asset on a network -- including assets not currently under management -- visualizes the connectivity between assets and networks to uncover risk patterns and policy weaknesses, and enables network and security teams to bring unknown assets under management while deploying security technology more effectively to mitigate risk.
