AASHTO Director of Engineering King Gee Recognized for Professional Achievement
WASHINGTON - The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is extremely pleased by the induction of King W. Gee, AASHTO's director of Engineering and Technical Services, into the esteemed National Academy of Construction. Gee was among 26 inductees selected from more than 250 industry leaders that were considered during the academy's rigorous nomination and election process.
"King has been a long-time leader in the transportation industry and we are proud that the National Academy of Construction recognized his many contributions to the field," said AASHTO Executive Director Bud Wright. "In addition, King's experience and commitment to safer and better transportation systems makes him a vital asset to AASHTO and state departments of transportation."
Gee earned a bachelor's and master's degrees at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. His successful 35-year career with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) included multiple senior level positions including FHWA Associate Administrator for Infrastructure from 2001 to 2011. King's work for FHWA took him to all 50 states and 35 countries. Two particular achievements at the agency were the development of multidisciplinary approaches to project acceleration and the establishment of requirements for specific plans for construction and financial management for all major highway construction nationwide.
"This is a tremendous honor and I am deeply moved and gratified to be included in the Academy's class of 2015," said Gee. "I've dedicated my career to advancing engineering and to learn that my peers consider this, my professional life, worthy of recognition is both humbling and inspiring."
King has twice been recognized at the FHWA with the Presidential Rank Meritorious Executive Award for his leadership and accomplishments. He also is the recipient of the Secretary of Transportation Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals for Exceptional, Meritorious, and Superior Achievement, and the Road Gang's Lester P. Lamm Award for leadership and dedication to highway programs.
The 2015 class of inductees to the National Academy of Construction was announced October 23 at the NAC Annual Meeting in Charleston, SC.
