Jive Software Launches Innovative Developer Community for Clearspace

Jive Launches Community with Nationwide Open Source Plugin Contest

PORTLAND, Ore., July 25, 2007 - Today at OSCON (O'Reilly's Open Source Convention), Jive Software announced the launch of its new developer community, Jivespace, an online community where developers can share knowledge and develop extensions for Jive's collaboration applications, including Clearspace, Clearspace X and Jive Forums. Jivespace is available online at dev.jivesoftware.com.

The Jivespace Developer Community is a place where developers can collaborate with Jive employees and their peers to write and share plugins, themes, macros, and other extensions to Clearspace, Clearspace X and Jive Forums.

Jivespace is built using Jive Software's own product, Clearspace X, and includes discussion forums, wiki documents, sharing of plugins, plugin wish lists, and blogs. Additional developer documentation, tutorials and video podcasts will also be available in Jivespace.

Developers deeply engaged in the community will be recognized for their participation with the reputation system built into Clearspace X.

"Our newest community will join our existing open source community, igniterealtime, in providing a focused and collaborative environment for developers," said Sam Lawrence, Jive Software's Chief Marketing Officer. "We have always included developers in our product development process, as well as made source code available. We truly see developers as an extension of our team."

In addition to unveiling Jivespace, Jive Software also announced a three-month, nationwide contest that recognizes developers who create original and innovative open source plugins for Clearspace. First place in the contest will be awarded $5,000 cash, with second place receiving $2,500 and third place receiving $1,500. The plugins developed for this contest will benefit all Clearspace users as they will be available free of charge and will extend the already feature-rich solution.

Jive is also providing open source and software user groups with complimentary licenses of Clearspace X or Jive Forums to further encourage collaboration. Developers can apply for the free licenses on the Jivespace Developer Community web site.
