Jay Kumar Speaks at Plastics News' 17th Annual Executive Forum

Owner of Universal and Mayfield Plastics Discusses Attracting Young Talent to Plastics Industry

Holyoke, MA. –  Jay Kumar, owner of thermoforming companies Mayfield Plastics and Universal Plastics, was recently a featured speaker at the Plastics News 17th Annual Executive forum in Las Vegas, Nevada. Plastics News' Executive Forum is one of the oldest and longest-lasting events in the plastics industry. The conference offers a comprehensive understanding of leadership in the plastics industry, focusing on how leadership skills can translate to business success.

This year the conference also featured a panel discussion with ‘Rising Stars in Plastics’, a session that highlights how different major companies train and retain some of the top talent in their fields. Jay Kumar was selected as a Rising Star by Plastics News in 2014 and spoke of the many efforts that both Universal and Mayfield have undertaken to train and attract young workers in the plastic thermoforming manufacturing industry in Massachusetts

Kumar spoke about his optimism about the opportunities in advanced manufacturing and about developing an organization where people are aware of and attracted by the opportunities available to them. “We see young people who are hungry and eager to make an impact – and we take them on because that’s their shot”, he said.  Kumar also dismissed the theory that millennials come with a sense of entitlement and commented that “we have good people at all different ages; our job is to find and retain them”.

The panel discussion was moderated by Plastics News Editor Don Loepp and was attended by over 100 executives from the plastics industry.
