ISO 2011 Annual Report Also Now Available

In an effort to raise the profile and value of standards to students around the world, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has launched a repository of teaching resources on standardization as part of its online educational resources. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages all interested stakeholders to explore and share these resources with colleagues in education and academia at all levels.

ISO in 2011

In an innovative approach to presenting its yearly organizational update, ISO has released its 2011 annual report in the form of a challenge in answering the hypothetical question, "ISO...so what?" ISO in 2011 focuses primarily not on what ISO has to say about itself, but on what a selection of the public- and private-sector users, customers, and stakeholders of ISO standards had to say in 2011.

The current version of the database comprises university teaching materials and program resources on standardization. Provided materials include:

Case studies on the economic benefits of standardization

Papers on standardization as a strategic business tool

Lectures and presentations on the standardization system and its importance

Lesson plans, teaching cases, and practical guidance for instructors

Textbook resources on standards development, electrotechnical standardization, and more

Looking ahead, ISO plans to expand the database to provide information on standardization education for primary, secondary, and tertiary schools. The goal is to provide a comprehensive, free resource for educators and students to have easy access to effective learning materials on international standardization and expand standards education worldwide.
