Is Your Clinic Prepared for a CDC Survey?

CDC and DHHS Recommend Data Loggers for Continual Monitoring

CHESTERLAND OH

In its recent guidelines for vaccine storage and medical monitoring, the CDC has stated that data loggers are their preferred temperature monitoring method. Is your clinic prepared for an annual survey? Vaccines for Children (VFC) program providers are surveyed annually by the CDC which checks all vaccine handling and temperature monitoring procedures. At CAS DataLoggers we supply VFC providers and clinics/hospitals across the country with our state of the art Accsense Temperature Data Logger. These temperature data loggers are an economical way for monitoring refrigerated and frozen vaccines in several medical storage units at once, providing peace of mind from liability concerns. Our Accsense systems automatically give you a phone call whenever your vaccine supply is suddenly at risk so you can take immediate action. Don't wait until you lose product – be prepared with Accsense!

Does your clinic or hospital rely on simple thermometers or the "penny in a cup" setup for in your medical storage units? Many vaccines are considered compromised whenever they're outside the temperature window for any duration, so if your fridge shuts off without a failsafe such as Accsense's automated phone calls, you could show up to work in the morning to find that your vaccine supply is already spoiled. With Accsense your facility has monitoring, alarming AND documentation all in one system.

The CDC is encouraging all program members to implement its new vaccine storage and handling practices ASAP. Among these guidelines is the "...use of digital data loggers with detachable probes that record and store temperature information at frequent programmable intervals for 24-hour temperature monitoring rather than non-continuous temperature monitoring...these changes...mean more accurate and comprehensive monitoring of any temperature excursions to which vaccines may have been exposed..." The CDC also states that these data loggers should have:

• An accuracy of 0.5°C or lower – When NIST-calibrated sensors are used, Accsense pods are well within this requirement, ensuring precise and reliable readings.

• Easy access to current, min and max temperatures. The Interim Guidelines state: "Reviewing the min/max temperatures helps to ensure that temperature excursions will be identified more quickly and corrections made that can prevent vaccine loss, as well as minimize the inaccuracy of generating twice-daily measurements."

• The ability to store readings for electronic documentation purposes and surveys: "Stored temperature monitoring data should be downloaded and reviewed at least weekly by providers." Accsense users can login using any Web browser to view real-time data and retrieve reports and graphs or modify the system's configuration from anywhere an Internet connection is available.

• Alarm capability – Accsense features advanced alarm capabilities which send out emails, texts and even phone messages whenever product temperatures go out of specification. You can even send the same alarm to multiple personnel.

Simply put, Accsense meets ALL of these criteria.

Easy to install, each temperature monitoring pod includes a power adapter and Ethernet cables, supporting power over Ethernet for a lower cost and easier maintenance compared to traditional wiring. Each data logger has connections for external RTD and Thermocouple sensors, and their turn-key operation means you just plug the pods in and let them run. Our users soon become knowledgeable in every aspect of the system's operation, so worries over regulatory concerns are a non-issue. In case of a power failure or network connection loss, Accsense pods keep running for up to 6 hours on their internal lithium batteries, during which the data loggers continue to buffer data. CAS DataLoggers also provides your facility with FREE technical support as you get up and running.

Since 2006 our systems have been in use in America's clinics and hospitals, providing temperature monitoring, cloud storage and alarming for children's vaccines, life science samples and medications.

Accsense users who have been awarded the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ include the Cleveland Clinic, Boston Children's Hospital, Stanford Hospital & Clinics, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and many more.
