IREC to Recognize Best in Nation Annual Search Open for IREC's 3iAwards
Press release date: June 11, 2014
For more than 20 years, the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) has recognized innovative people, projects and programs that promote and accelerate the sustainable growth of renewable energy. This year, the annual awards honor the nation's best in both renewable energy and energy efficiency, with a few new features that will elevate the exposure of both candidates and award winners.
For the first time, the selection of IREC's awardees will be in the hands of the public, with open voting online July 14 to August 11. In previous years, an independent committee of experts reviewed applications and selected winners. The opportunity for a variety of stakeholders and the community at large to vote will bring even greater awareness and acknowledgement of this year's applicants and winners.
"With these awards we recognize innovative solutions to solving tough problems; we salute the ingenuity of those who think outside the box to advance the use of clean energy; and we thank those who inspire others to make a difference," said IREC Board Chair David Warner.
While the awards traditionally focused solely on renewable energy initiatives, IREC recognizes that energy efficiency plays an equally crucial role in achieving a sustainable future. Typically, government, energy industries and educational systems view them separately, with little collaboration between programs. The Closing the Divide Award category seeks innovative examples of initiatives that help "close the divide" between energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Applications from or on behalf of extraordinary people, projects and programs in the clean energy space will be accepted online through July 7, 2014, in one of five categories.

IREC Certified Clean Energy Trainer of the Year

The IREC 3iAwards ceremony will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in conjunction with 2014 Solar Power International, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. IREC will honor the winners at Solar Central, the multi-media epicenter on the SPI Expo floor, where some 10,000 solar industry professionals are expected over four days.
IREC believes clean energy is critical to achieving a sustainable and economically strong future. To pave this clean energy path, IREC works to expand consumer access to clean energy; generates information and objective analysis grounded in best practices and standards; and leads programs to build a quality clean energy workforce, including a unique credentialing program for training programs and instructors. A not-for-profit organization since 1982, IREC's programs and policies have benefitted energy consumers, policymakers, utilities and the clean energy industry.
