IRC'S Tanfilm® Technology Exhibits Superior Moisture Performance Characteristics of Tantalum Nitride

TaNFilm® video demonstrates failure mechanism of nichrome resistors...

LAS VEGAS, NV (May 14, 2007) - Providing design engineers with a demonstration of thin film resistive elements that are immune from corrosion problems in humid environments, TT electronics IRC Advanced Film Division has developed a video about their patented precision thin film resistor technology. Trademarked as TaNFilm®, the thin film process relies on self-passivating properties of tantalum nitride to produce a more stable, reliable resistive device as compared to nickel-chrome (nichrome) elements used in conventional resistors.

"The two most popular materials used to develop precision thin film resistors are tantalum nitride and nickel-chrome," said Steve Wade, director of sales and marketing for IRC's Advanced Film Division. "Unlike nichrome, our TaNFilm technology is self-passivating and does not dissolve when exposed to moisture and a voltage, making it much more suitable for applications that require reliable performance even when exposed to harsh environments, such as automotive, aerospace, military, telecommunications, and portable electronics."

IRC's TaNFilm® process also enables custom circuit configurations and multiple resistance values without compromising tight tolerance or tracking characteristics.
