First Phase of IPC Electronics Technology Trends Studies Pinpoints the Top 10 Trends to Watch
Free White Paper Reveals Industry Views on Critical Technologies
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, - Research conducted by IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries® indicates the top ten technology trends to watch in electronics manufacturing include:
o miniaturization
o high-performance
o high-density interconnect (HDI)
o embedded technology
o flexible circuits
o lead free
o halogen free
o light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
o optoelectronics
o printed electronics
Ideas about the trends have been compiled in a free white paper released by IPC, Report on Phase I of IPC Market Research on Electronics Technology Trends: Insights about 10 Key Trends from Interviews with Industry Experts. Industry experts and executives at printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturers, electronics manufacturing services (EMS) companies, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as suppliers of materials and equipment to those industries contributed their views on the trends, time horizons and potential impact of these trends. The white paper is available for free download at ipc.org/tech-trends-white-paper.
The white paper is the first output in the development of a series of studies to assess the current state of development and likely future direction of these trends, and to pinpoint and quantify the market opportunities these trends represent to the electronic interconnect supply chain. Phase two in the process will include additional interviews as well as quantitative surveys to collect hard data to augment the qualitative research. This work will culminate with the publication of several new studies in 2011.
