InTech Magazine and CITGO Kick Off Cyber Security Blog

Research Triangle Park, NC (3 May 2007) - ISA's InTech magazine and the CITGO - Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex are starting a Web log (blog) that will cover CITGO's design and implementation of their facility's "more secure process control network."

The CITGO plant, fourth largest refinery in the U.S., is at the early stages of the project. The plant issued a request for information (RFI) in February.

"We have the unique opportunity to experience the entire process, from bid to startup. It's going to offer valuable technical exposure for automation, systems, and networking engineers," said moderator and InTech magazine Senior Technical Editor Nicholas Sheble.

"I fully support the idea of InTech magazine and ISA being involved during this upgrade process at CITGO. We consider ISA to be our primary source of information, standards, and guidelines for all things in instrumentation and control, and I'm looking forward to ISA's development of the same level of standards with regard to cyber security issues," said Scott Garvie, manager of CITGO's automation department.

The URL for reading, posting, and participating in the blog is isa.org/intech/blog-citgo. The blog serves as a companion blog to the InTech magazine Talk to me blog at http://www.isa.org/intech/blog/.

"We welcome the automation and cyber security communities to participate in this blog with commentary and discussion," said Sheble. "This is a great opportunity for the industry to look at an important issue up close."
