Industrial Cleaning Machine for Small Components


For precision cleaning of small components in an aqueous solution, a new machine, called MALTA, has been introduced to the UK market by Turbex under its exclusive distributor agreement with the German manufacturer, Mafac.



The machine incorporates a spray-flood action, highly controllable kinematics and ultrasonics to provide highly efficient yet gentle cleaning. It is therefore well suited to removal of swarf and grease from delicate components with intricate, difficult-to-reach areas.



Equipped with a rotating spraying and drying system that acts on all six sides of the load, the MALTA has spray nozzles arranged close to the centre of rotation. It ensures that the entire surface area of components being processed have contact with the cleaning solution, while minimising the spray shadow.



Owing to the special nozzle arrangement combined with an optimised 480 x 320 x 200 mm basket, the machine achieves improved, more homogeneous cleaning in a shorter time. The user benefits from higher process reliability and greater flexibility in arranging the components.



Modular build with up to three internal tanks and options such as full immersion and various pump and filtration specifications allow users to tailor the MALTA cleaning system to suit their requirements. A new process chamber contributes to the improved cleaning, as it has a smooth interior that is almost devoid of areas where particles of dirt may be deposited. Recontamination of cleaned components is therefore nearly impossible, significantly increasing process reliability.



The drying system is likewise very effective. Its rotating warm air pulsing and 110°C hot air blowing actions, either stationary or rotating, together with vacuum drying ensure a high degree of dryness, even for complex components.



The enhanced performance of the MALTA is also attributable to a newly developed ultrasonics system. As with the spray nozzles, the ultrasound oscillators can rotate and are thus able to directly target critical areas of components being cleaned. This principle reduces shadow zones, improves access to hidden interior contours, and cleans intricate structures effectively but gently in reduced cycle times.



With a 2.2 metre square footprint, the compact machine and its control have been designed for ergonomic use and ease of service. The operating software has a simple user interface which guides the operator intuitively through the menu when creating a program, so little training is needed. Few parameters need to be changed to adjust the cleaning process accurately to the load. To ensure reproducibility, the control offers a range of monitoring options and logs relevant machine processes. Data can be exported via a USB interface.



Sustainability played a key part in the development of the MALTA. The machine incorporates features that optimise the economy, efficiency and environmental compatibility of its components and processes. The entire machine and all sides of the tanks are insulated, air and water flow has been redesigned to reduce energy consumption, heat exchangers have been incorporated and new standards in particle and bypass filtration have been adopted.
