East Providence, RI, 02914 0349
USA

Press release date: November 29, 2011

igus® is running its third vector award competition to reward challenging and innovative applications using cable carrier systems. Entrants from anywhere in the world are eligible to enter the competition. The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2012.

The winners of the competition will be rewarded with cash prizes of 5,000 Euros for first place, 2,500 Euros for second place, and 1,000 Euros for third place. The judging panel includes expert scientists and engineers from ZVEI (the German Central Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics), WZL (Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering), the Institute of Technology at RWTH Aachen University, and the Ministry of Transportation (TÜV Rheinland).

Joe Ciringione, sales and product manager for cable carriers and continuous-flex cables at igus North America, says, "After the success of the last competition, we are looking forward to seeing the new and challenging applications submitted from all over the globe. We are confident that the competition will once again demonstrate the limits that continue to be broken with cable carriers in terms of loads, speeds, travels, and more."

More than 110 entrants, hailing from the USA, Canada, China, India, Korea, Singapore, Brazil and Europe, competed in the second vector award competition last year. CEZ Group, an energy supplier in the Czech Republic, took home the first place prize. The application, a 2,018-foot cable carrier system in a lignite-fired power plant, is currently the longest in the world using an Energy Chain® cable carrier from igus.
